Smokefire – pit fire
A burned form is hand-made of a particular kind of clay which is then smokefired.
Smoke fire is a technique in which the ceramic is placed at the vicinity of the magic of the fire and the carbon, resulting from the burning of organic materials such as sawdust, paper, etc. creates textures and forms on the work.
A part of the work is improvised before it is placed in pit fire. Next, the figures and shapes uniquely form on the work in the kiln.
A smokefired work is ultimately the result of amalgamation of control and chance.
No two works end up similar in this technique.
It is not water-resistant and is recommended for decorative purposes.
